The University is giving no consideration to purchasing insurance covering individual student's belongings." L. Gare Wiggina, administrative vice president, old a press conference yesterday.
Although the University is self-innured for all fire losses to buildings and building equipment, room contracts state that students' families must insure for personal belongings.
Despite this, the students who suffered losses in the Quincy fire will be re-imbursed by the University if they do not have personal coverage. John M. Bullitt Master of Quincy House is presently compiling a list of student losses.
Bullitt said that he should have all the data by the end of the week, and will then submit it to Dean Watson. He added that most of the fire victims were still trying to find out what sort of coverage their families had.
At the press conference. Wiggins stated that he would consider the possibility of having fire drills in the Houses and adding more signs indicating fire exits.
