Freshmen will completely vacate Massachusetts Hall this Fall, and leave it to the use of the President and his staff, according to plans set for approval by the President's office this week.
According to the plans, all of Wigglesworth Hall will be turned over to the freshman class. Dudley House upper classmen now living in Wigglesworth J will be placed in other housing.
Move to Wigglesworth
The 30 freshmen who would have lived in Massachusetts Hall next year will instead live in Wigglesworth J.F Skiddy von Stade Jr. 38, Dean of Freshmen, said yesterday. This entry currently houses 38.
Most of and administrative personnel moving into Massachusetts Hall will be the staff of James R. Reynolds '23, assistant to the President for Development. Only half of Reynolds' staff, and Reynolds himself, is currently working in Massachusetts Hall. The other half is working on the fourth floor of the Reliance Bank building on Dunster St.
Under One Roof
Reynolds said yesterday that he wanted very much to have his entire staff under one roof and was looking forward to the completion of present plans. He mentioned that there had been an original attempt to move his offices to the new section of Holyoke Center but it had not worked out. His office assists the President with fund-raising activities.
Plans for moving the Dudley House members now in Wigglesworth have not yet been revealed. Edward W. Argy '66, chairman of the Dudley House Committee, said yesterday that the Administration and Dudley House Master Thomas E. Crooks '49 have promised to provide the needed September spaces.
No Board
The Dudley House upperclassmen who live in Wigglesworth are involved in an arrangement in which they pay standard room fees but do not take board at the College.
This switch only adds to Dudley House's moving problems. Master Crooks and the Dudley House Committee have been working all year on the transferral of Dudley House's main headquarters to Lehman Hall in September.
