Yet another rematch between a Harvard crew and a Vesper Boat Club crew highlights the first annual Head of the Charles Regatta today.
The Harvard boat, with Paul Gunderson, Geoff Picard, Harry Pollack, and Bill Weber, represented the U.S. in the four without cox competition at the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo. In today's four with cox race, Arthur Watson will be in the stern.
Against them is the stern four from the Vesper eight that captured the gold medal in the same Olympics. The Philadelphia club boat is manned by Bill Stowe, Bill Knecht, Boyce Budd, and Emory Clark.
Two Masters of Harvard Houses, Arthur Smithies of Kirkland and Alwin Pappenheimer of Dunster, have entered the veterans singles competition, restricted to men over 40. Both are rowing for the Cambridge Boat Club.

In the college eight division, Harvard coach Harry Parker has entered a pair of boats made up of candidates for next year's varsity.
In one, the Harvard University Juniors boat, are Bob Faxon, Charles Houghton, Jacques Flechter, Jon Miller, John Vorhies, Bill Goodman, Rob Russell, and Arthur Allen, with cox Quantin Sullivan.
The other eight, labelled the Harvard University sophomores, consists of John Crocker, Curt Canning, Ed Lawson, Paul Silk, Chris Lunding, Andy Larkin, Ian Gardiner, Paul Neskow, and cox Paul Hoffman.

Tripp Rows Singles
In the junior singles, Ed Tripp, who rowed for the Yale and Cambridge crews and for the Leander Boat Club at Henley, will be an entrant from Weld Boathouse.
The regatta will wind three miles up the Charles from the site of the M.I.T. and Boston University Boathouses to the Charles River Park Reservation area, passing through the heart of Harvard.
The races will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the veterans single sculls, and will follow with an event each 15 minutes until the senior eights wind up the competition at 4:45 p.m.
Other senior eights will include crews from M.I.T., Northeastern, Dartmouth, and the Potomac Boat Club. Seated in one of the three Northeastern eights will be freshman Bill Maher, current North American Single Sculls champion.
70 Boats Entered
Other fours have been entered by M.I.T. and the Penn Athletic Club. There are 70 boats with more than 250 oarsmen in the 13 divisions. The regatta is sponsored by the Cambridge Boat Club.
