The Ford Foundation has endorsed the Radcliffe Institute for Independent Study and awarded it a grant of $250,000. The grant is the first that the Ford Foundation has ever given Radcliffe.
Officials of the college believe that the Foundation's approval of the idea of part-time study for educated, adult women indicates a changing climate of opinion in the United States.
The grant will be used during a three to five year period beginning this June. It will support the Institute's part-time fellowship program which awards qualified women wishing to work on advanced scholarly and creative projects from $500 to $3000.
