WHRB Office Plan Delayed By Fund Lag

Yearbook to Share Combined Quarters

Construction plans for the new WHRB-Yearbook headquarters over the Masters' garage will be delayed, Robert H. Leoffler '65, Yearbook president, said yesterday. Leoffler attributed the slow-up to a lagging fund drive.

Last fall the Yearbook announced its intention to join WHRB in building offices above the garage, located on the corner of Plympton and Mill Sts. The proposal calls for a second and third story, to be occupied by WHRB and the Yearbook staffs, respectively.

To raise its share of the construction cost, WHRB has been conducting a fund drive since last summer, while the Year-book has possessed from the start sufficient funds for the venture.

The WHRB drive "hasn't been too successful," Loeffler said. An insufficient response to a general campaign reportedly forced WHRB to change tactics in midstream for a campaign directed at reaching potential big donors.

Asked about the state of the fund drive, WHRB head Charles A. Murray '65 said it was "coming along," but he declined to be more specific. Mcrray added that he hoped to raise enough money by the end of the summer.

Despite the delay, the Yearbook is not considering any other locations for its new offices, Loeffler said. "Given the land situation in Cambridge, there are really no other alternatives."

The proposed construction has the full support of Dean Watson. "I'm willing to do anything I can to get the building up and both of them into it as soon as possible," he said.
