Princeton's fencing squad pulled away from a 12 to 12 tie with three straight wins in epee Saturday, and handed the Crimson its second defeat of the weekend, 15 to 12. The varsity was ahead twice in the even match, at 8 to 7 and 12 to 11, but twice the Tigers came back to tie the score.
Only the sabre squad was able to win, with its customary solid showing. Dave Silbert won all three, while Mitch Thomas came back from a first bout loss to win the next two. Doug Runnels added a win to give the varsity a 6-3 margin.
Mike Klapper, fencing consistently, won two of three in epee as the Crimson lost 3 to 6. Captain Hubert Hocutt found himself in his second bout, and rallied to win his first bout of the year in his third encounter. Peter Boyce lost three.
In epee, Doug Fitchen won two of three, while Bob Scrivner won one as the division lost 3 to 6. Tony Enders, who started for Bill Chapple, lost three.
