Swimmers Swamp Brown As Turner, Fowler Excel

The Crimson tankmen proved yesterday that some Sonny Listons of the sporting world can do the expected, as they demolished a woefully weak Brown squad, 60-33.

The Bruins captured only three firsts in the one-sided match, and one of those, the dive, was an outright gift by Crimson coach Bill Brooks, who declined to submit an entry in the event.

Harry Turner was a double winner for Crimson, copping the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.6 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.6. Brooks graciously held his ace distance man, Dave Abramson, out of the 500, but the best Bruins could respond with was a second place in the event by Dave Prior.

Abramson did swim in the 200-yard freestyle, taking first place in 1:57.7 with Prior once again the bridesmaid.

Sophomore sensation Bruce Fowler turned in an impressive 2:23.6 to take the 200-yard breastroke, but for once his perpetual swimming mate porky pits wasn't right there to back him up.

This time it was a new addition to the Crimson squad. Tom Roberts, who Captured the second position.

Backstroker Al Lincoln got back on the winning track after a third-place finish Saturday against Princeton, swimming the 200-yards in 2:12.8.

Bruin captain Bob Martin got his expected two victories, in the 100-yard freestyle and in the 200-yard individual medley. His medley time of 2:06.8, a new Brown pool record, was just fast enough to beat Crimson medley ace Henry Frey.

The Yardling tankmen sunk the Baby Bruins 62:32, with Olympian Neville Hayes setting a pool record in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 4:04.7.

Saturday, the Crimson faces another marshmallow opponent, Pennsylvania. The Quakers have won only two of eight meets this winter.
