Track Squad to Invade Garden in K of C Meet

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A record number of Harvard trackmen will compete in the Knights of Columbus Track Meet to be held tomorrow at the Boston Garden and Briggs Cage. The feature events will bring together some of the most outstanding athletes in the East.

In the 1000-yd. run, Ed Meehan will be pitted against Canada's Bill Crothers, one of the foremost milers in the world, according to Track Coach Bill McCurdy, who feels the Canadian is sure to win the race. Nevertheless, he called Meehan "one of the finest representatives from Harvard in this type of event in years."

John Ogden has a good chance of scoring well in the mile, although Brown's Dave Farley is favored to win. His performance may well depend on how he adjusts to running on a board track.

McCurdy gives Keith Chiappa a good chance of placing among the top four in the 500-yd. run. Also in that race will be last year's winner, Wendell Motley of Yale.

Harvard's best chance of winning a field event, according to Assistant Coach Ed Stowell, will be Chris Ohiri's entry in the broad jump event at Briggs Cage. In the competition at the Garden, Jay Mahaney will enter the pole vault and Chris Pardee the high jump.

Awori Enters Two Events

Aggrey Awori will run both the 50-yd. dash and the hurdles, the two events in which he made an outstanding showing in last year's BAA meet.

Harvardmen will also compete in the shot put, weight throw, and several relay contests. McCurdy called the freshman relay team "the best in seven or eight years."

In the past, Harvard has not done too well in the K of C meet. The vacation has usually left the team out of practice, but this year's squad looks in good shape. As Stowell put it, they can be expected to do "reasonably well."
