Dick Stuart blasted two home runs, one with the bases loaded, and led the Boston Red Sox to a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Los Angeles Angels last night, 9-3, and 7-6.
Stuart, acquired in an off-season trade with Pittsburgh, put the first game out of reach with his grand slam drive into the left field screen in the third inning.
He had a three-run homer in the nightcap, and scored the winning run when he reached on as error and rode home on Russ Nixon's eighth inning double.
Although Stuart's batting average is about 250, he now has seven homers and is among the league leaders in runs batted in with 24.
His three-run blast in the third inning of the second game gave the Red Sox a 6-3 lead, but the Angels fought back with one in the fifth and tied it with two in the sixth.
