Niederhoffer, Pereira to Captain Varsity Squash, Wrestling Teams

Victor B. Niederhoffer '64, of Quincy House and Brooklyn, N.Y., has been elected captain of next year's squash team. Niederhoffer played number one for the varsity this past season, losing only to intercollegiate champion Ralph Howe in the Yale match.

During the year Niederhoffer entered six tournaments against nationally ranked players-winning three, losing two in the finals, and losing one in the semi finals. The Harvard junior survived to the semifinals of the national singles competition in Detroit and is ranked fourth in the country.

The squash team should extend its winning streak next season to 30 over a three-year period. The Crimson will lose only three seniors-Paul Sullivan, Doug Walter, and Roger Wiegand-and gain extra depth from the freshman team, which outclassed Yale 8-1 in February.

In the final squash action of the season, Jim Zug of Princeton and the Harvard Business School won the University tournament Monday. Zug defeated Niederhoffer in an extremely close match, 15-14, 14-18, 15-17, 15-14, 15-14.

Next year's wrestling captain is Frederick A. Pereira '64 of Kirkland House and Hackensack, N.J. Pereira has been one of the team's major assets this year. He was one of the two Harvard grapplers to score in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Championship, in which he took seventh in the 167 lb. class.

In the Coast Guard Invitational Tournament, which has as many participants as the Intercollegiate, he finished second in the 177lb. class. Although the team split its matches 5.5 this year, Pereira ended the season with a 7-3 record, losing to Springfield, Columbia, and Yale.

Pereira has been wrestling since high school, where he twice won the Lehigh prep school tournament.
