Pereira, Brooks Score at Annapolis Against Powerful Eastern Wrestlers

Fred Pereira and Ben Brooks were the only Crimson wrestlers to score against stiff competition in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Championships at Annapolis over the weekend. Pereira took seventh place in the 167 lb. class after losing to Harrison of Penn State, who eventually won the tournament.

Pereira had pinned Kleinzahler of the University of Pennsylvania in the preliminaries Friday afternoon and advanced to meet Harrison in the quarter finals that evening. Harrison pinned Pereira, however, sending him into a consolation match with Dutton of Brown. Pereira then defeated Dutton Saturday afternoon, registering his second pin of the tournament.

Brooks was the only other wrestler on the varsity to advance beyond the preliminaries. Wrestling at 177 lbs., he won a 10-8 decision over Wittenberg of Cornell, but then lost to Gill of Penn State, 6-2, in the quarter-finals.

Although the Crimson garnered five points in the tournament, the official final score was zero. A penalty assessed because one wrestler failed to make weight had earlier given Harvard a five-point deficit.

Syracuse, with four men in the finals, swept the Annapolis tournament. Lehigh's Pendleton took individual honors, being chosen "best wrestler in the tournament" for the second consecutive year.

The Eastern Intercollegiate Championships closed out the season for the varsity. The Crimson had earlier concluded Ivy competition with one of its best seasons in recent years, finishing second in the league standings behind Cornell.
