The varsity swimming team won 9 of 11 events and its 17th consecutive deal meet victory Saturday, downing Columbia in New York by a score of 69-36.

As he had the day before against Penn, Bill Chadsey led the Crimson swimmers, winning the individual medley in 2:17.2 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:26.5. He was followed by Gregg Skalinder in the individual medley, the first of the Crimson's four sweeps in the meet.

The other sweeps came in the 500-yard freestyle, the breaststroke, and the dive. In the 500, Mike McAnulty and Stephen Seagren took the first two places, duplicating their Friday triumph against Penn. Tom Roberts was followed by Mike Gaflin in the breaststroke, and Danny Mahoney and Jeff Lewy won the dive.

Other Harvard firsts were by Dave Brandling-Bennett, who won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.5, and Phillip Graham, who took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:26.1. A team of Rusty Taylor, Porky Pitts, Graham, and Dave Abramson won the medley relay while the freestyle relay victors were Ed Seaton, Bob Dilworth, Eric Bregman, and Arvid Groswald.

The freshman team lost its first contest of the year to a powerful Deerfield squad, 51-44.
