Elephant Rally Sparks Surge of Contributions

'Elephant' House Play Cast Big Backer

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Sparked by an impromptS in the Yard, contributions to the Elephant fund poured into elephant head-quarters last night. As of night, elephant racing ais reported that they were but $100 short of their goal of $650; they expressed hope that the additional ney could be raised today.

The large single contributor this far was the cast of the Eliot House play, Twelfth Night, which opens week. Allan P. Gibb , co-producer of the play, told CRIMSON that a per-cent of the profits would be given to the elephant; $50 has been donated in advance. Gibb indicated that he was sure "the caliber of the production is such" that the group "couldn't fail to earn the money." He said the ture was fitting because the production is colossal--almost elephant sized."

Ma Finley was reported as saying the action was not only good for the play, but also for introducing the House's symbol--you guessed it an elephant--to the fresh-men. He noted that Shake-speare refers to an Elephant tavern in Twelfth Night: "Hold, sir, here's my purse, in the soth suburbs, at the Elephant, is best to lodge."

Another big contributor was Moors Hall, which turned in Jordan came up with Freshmen in the Yard took unilateral initiative in collections of small change, and at last check had brought in almost $20 in pennies, nickels, and dimes.

The HYRC has contributed $10 and the Students for Lodge pledged another $5. Last night the YDCHR Executive Committee endorsed intercollegiate elephant racing and voiced hope Harvard's entry "would move forward with, vigor." Although the Demos failed to turn in cash, the Yacht Club made a small but useful donation.
