Hurlbut Elected

Cornelius S. Hurlbut, Jr., professor of Mineralogy, has been elected president of the Mineralogical Society of America. His election was announced in Houston, Tex., where the Society was meeting earlier this month.

Hurlbut, an authority on the crystalline structure of minerals, is the author of Minerals and How to Study Them and Manual of Mineralogy.

A native of Springfield, Mass., Hurlbut received his A.B. from Antioch College and his Ph.D. from Harvard. He has taught at Harvard since 1931 and became Professor of Mineralogy in 1954.

He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and of the America Academy of Arts and Sciences. During 1944-50, he served as Secretary to the Mineralogical Society of America.
