YAF in West To Turn Red Goods

Executive members of the Harvard Young Americans for Freedom have called as unnecessary the Indiana YAF's decision to burn Communist-made products found in Fort Wayne's supermarkets.

Thomas Houston, head of the Indiana chapter said Monday that the Midwesterner's plans have been approved by Ft. Wayne's mayor and storekeepers. He emphasized that the burning, a protest against U.S. trade with Iron Curtain nations, will be completely within the law.

Already Indiana's YAF has placed special tags on Communist goods, in order to indicate their origin.

William J. Graham, a law school student and president of the Harvard chapter of YAF, said that he is not sure that America should not carry on some trade with Communist countries. "There can be some benefit in keeping open avenues of exchange between us and our enemies," he said.

James K. Knapp '64, an executive of the Harvard organization plans no action similar to that taken in Fort Wayne. He stated that America should cease trade with members of the Communist Bloc, but said that the Indiana plans would have little effect on U.S. policy or public opinion.
