Young Americans for Freedom, a conservative student political organization, has announced plans for "A Conservative Rally for World Liberation From Communism" at Madison Square Garden March 7.
Sens. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.) and John Tower (R-Tex) will be the main speakers, and help present YAF's annual awards "for contributions to conseratism and the nation."
The winners this year include Sen. Thomas J. Dodd (D-Conn.), novelist John Dos Passos, Herbert Hoover, Gen. Edwin Walker, Prof. Richard M. Weaver, John Wayne, columnist David Lawrence, and editor M. Stanton Evans.
YAF also will present "a special award to the embattled Katangan people for their courageous stand against Communism" to be received in person by Katangan President Moishe Tshombe. Tshombe's appearance in New York has not been verified.
The YAF announcement continues: "If it is at all possible, we urge you to join with 1,000 other Americans in sponsoring this great meeting by purchasing special Sponsors' Seats at $25 each. As a Sponsor, you name will be included in the special Madison Square Garden Rally Issue of our monthly publication, The New Guard."
Oh boy.
