Five Trackmen Win Whittinsville Meet

Just for the ball of it, five members of the varsity track teams traveled Saturday to the Whittinsville AAU championships near Weresster. Unbelievable enough, they won the team title with 38 points and 10 trophies.

Almost on a whim, Larry Ropaher, Ous Schumacher, Don Kirkland, and Fred Howard decided to go in the Whittinsville meet. They were somewhat surprised when Tom Biodgett, who was supposed to the flat on his book in a hospital, showed up in the midst of the proceedings.

Biodgett was quite a help. He set a meet record in winning the pole vault at 13 ft., 6 in., and took second in the broad jump at 22 ft., 6 in. Biodgett arrived too late for the high hurdles, but he run 34.4 into a head wind to win the lows.

Kirkland, Schumacher, Howard, and Repsher were first in a close mile relay in the meet record time of 8:18.5. Schumacher and Howard finished second and third in the 890, and Howard and Kirkland were third and fourth in the 440.

Repsher, especially, had a field day. He won the 440 in 40.2 and the 220 into the wind in 22.8. He was second in the 100, and ran a fine anchor leg in the relay.
