No permanent Preacher to the University will be chosen by next fall, President Pusey revealed this week. The Rev. R. Jerrold Gibson will serve as Acting Minister of Memorial Church for the first part of the term, with guest clergymen giving the weekly sermons.
Pusey and the Board of Preachers have been looking for a new Preacher to the University since the Rev. George A. Buttrick retired a year ago. In the interim, visiting ministers have been conducting the weekly services.
Several of the visitors, as well as men recommended by local clergymen, have been considered for the vacant post, Pusey said. He had hoped to name a permanent Preacher during the past year.
