The Crimson basketball varsity visits BU tonight with hopes of achieving its first victory of of the young season. After two tough contests, chances are Harvard may find life easier with the Terriers. BU, which has only one veteran on its roster, lost to Massachusetts, 75 to 71, Wednesday,

There are no seniors on this year's version of the BU Terriers, which features back court specialist Mike Cotton, the only returning player from last years' squad.

Brandeis transfer Larry McNulty, a 6-5 post man, is one of the big BU scoring guns. While at Brookline High he set a record of 26.4 points per game. Playing for Brandeis last season he set a rebound record.

The Terrier's hope for a big man this year disappeared when Dick Morehead (6-8) developed rheumatic fever and dropped out of school. Last year's scoring leader, Larry Isenberg, also dropped out of school.

Most promising among the batch of rookies that are carrying the load for BU this year is Adam Florezak a 6-3 forward. Florczak is strong on the boards, but like any sophomore lacks experience.

Despite their two losses to date, the Crimson Crimson has shown traces of brilliance. In their opener, Harvard managed to lead until the final minute of play before dropping behind 72-70 to a strong Williams squad. Wednesday, against the University of Connecticut, the Crimson held a one point advantage mid-way through the second period before starting to fade. Even so, with four minutes left, Connecticut only led by four points. Then the roof fell in.

The Crimson's problem of falling apart in the final minutes is an old and agonizing phenomenon. If the second half could be shortened to 15 minutes Harvard would be guaranteed a tremendous season.

One reason for the ragged play at the games' conclusions is the defense employed. Coach Floyd Wilson has his boys working a gruelling switching man to man system, which is great when the team is fresh. In the first half this defense works fine, because the team is alert and presses hard.

As the games have progressed though, rapidly accumulating fouls and tiredness have tended to make the switches imperfect, giving the opponents chances for the short jump shot.

Tonight's starting quintet should include Borchard, Lynch, Danner, Joe Deering, and Gene Augustine. Strass, and forward Pete Kelley should also see action
