Quincy Sets Inter-House Dining Time

Quincy House has joined Dunster in barring inter-House students from the Dining hall until 6:15 p.m. Quincy imposes the time Restriction on guests and other Houses every evening, while Dunster generally has put it into effect on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and on special occasions.

Dean Watson said yesterday that no real action had been taken by any Master to alter the inter-House hours. This must have been done unilaterally," he said,"and there is an unwritten rule at the Masters should not act unilaterally."

John M. Billitt '42, Master of Quincy House, said yesterday he took the action at the request of the House Committee. This is what the students in Quincy House wanted," Bullitt said. Students said complained about the particularly long lines at dinner from 5:30 p.m., to 6:30 p.m. he pointed out.

Bullitt said the move gave students who wanted to eat early and rapidly the opportunity to do so, while still allowing Quincy residents to bring guests from other Houses after 6:15 p.m. He said he hoped to "spread dining out" over the entire 5:30-7 p.m. period.

Increase in Residents

There are a lot of inter-House students," Bullitt said, but not noticeably more than last year. One reason for the crowding of the dining hall is the fact that Quincy has 430 residents this year, as opposed to 403 in 1960-61, he said.

With drama productions going on in the Dunster dining hall, the 6:15 p.m. limit will probably be in effect every day for the next two weeks, Gordon M. Fair, acting Master of Dunster House, said yesterday.
