While the junior varsity eleven goes after its fourth straight win today, the Yardling football team will be struggling to return to the winning column. Both teams face Dartmouth squads at 2 p.m. on Soldiers Field.
Coach Norm Shepard's impressive but untried JV team (87 points in three games) will finally meet rigid opposition. Quarterbacks Grady Watts and Chuck Kinney will direct the Crimson attack against the Indians, perennially outstanding on the J.V. level.
The probable starting backfield for the Crimson will be Bill Taylor at right half, Roy Williams at left half, Gill Bamford at full, and Watts at quarter. In the forward wall, from left end to right, Shepard will most likely start Ron Bone-brake, Rick Rice, Dick Baker, Tom McLaughlin, Walt Kelley, Ed Smith, and Ron Juvonen.
Neither team is favored, yet a tie is not expected.
Hoping to atone for its last-minute 14-7 loss to Brown last week, the Yardling eleven will be forced to carry on with less than full strength at the end positions. Coach Henry Lamar's top three ends--Tom Stephenson, Charlie Bardelis, and Francis Martin--will be out because of injuries. Mike Foley and Jeff Lambert will fill in.
As before, Mike Bassett and Bill Humenuk will handle the quarterback spot, flanked by left half Luther Harshbarger, right half Jeff Forbes, and fullback Bill Grana. Other probable starters are tackles Bob Fastov and Jack Neuenschwander; guards Walter Dobrselecki and Sid Goldfarb, and captain Chuck Kessler at center.
In the Yardling tilt, prognosticators have been guided by comparative scores; the Indians whipped Brown 31 to 6.
