Favored Varsity Hockey Team Will Meet Tufts Tonight at Home

The Crimson's "new" defensive sextet is heavily favored tonight to win its fifth straight game as it meets Tufts tonight at 8 p.m. at Watson Rink. The varsity, which has allowed only four goals in its last four outings, should have little trouble keeping down the score against the undermanned Jumbos.

Scoring against Tufts should be no great problem for the well-balanced Crimson lines either, although the visitors have, if nothing else, a very talented goalie. Ken Tandreau turns away shots in amazing fashion, but his team's lack of even one dependable defensive combination is evident in the records. Even with Tandreau in the nets, Tufts has lost all ten of its games so far.

An example of the troubles of a oneman team was the Jumbos' 9-5 loss to Northeastern Friday night, in spite of 56 saves by their goalie. The Huskies, rated below the Crimson in talent, also whipped the Jumbos with little trouble Monday night.

Tufts' hopes for a Cinderella performance tonight lie in remembrance of its near upset of Brown and in the fact that the usual disadvantage of unfamiliarity with the ice for visitors will not confront the Jumbos. In addition to lacking depth and a victory, the Jumbos are homeless and use Watson for their infrequent practice sessions.

Skating for Crimson coach Cooney Weiland will be one line of Bill Beckett, Stew Forbes, and Crocker Snow, and another, equally productive trio of Dave Morse, Jim Dwinell, and Bruce Thomas. The latter line has scored 15 times this season, and the line centered by Forbes, who leads the team with eight goals, has tallied 14 markers.

The game marks the end of the Crimson's get-ready session before the thick of the Ivy League season, which the varsity faces after exams. With a win tonight, the team would stand at 9-4-1 and appear ready to pursue the League championship.
