Crimson Trackmen Highly Favored Over Weak Princeton Team Today

Fresh from a smashing triumph over Army's powerful Cadets, the varsity track team will face Princeton, one of the East's weaker squads, this afternoon at 1:30 in the Stadium. Even if it suffers a slight ledown after last week's all-out performance, the Crimson should have little trouble with the Tigers, and its point total should approach the 100 mark.

The highlight of the afternoon will be Dyke Benjamin's attack on Pete Reider's two-year-old mile record of 4:11.0. Last week Benjamin obliterated Reider's two-mile mark with an outstanding 9:08.5 clocking. He also took 11.4 seconds off his best previous mile time with a 4:15.6 effort. Princeton's Charlie Hudson and Frank Gutmann, and probably the Crimson's Jed Fitzgerald will be Benjamin's opponents in his record attempt.

Another interesting race will be captain Albie Gordon's encounter in the 440 with Princeton's sensational sophomore Dick Edmunds. Edmunds ran a 47.4 quarter last year, and he turned in a 49.0 effort a week ago. Gordon did 49.2 last Saturday, and his competitive drive will make the race an exciting one.

Tiger Pete Harwood is a dangerous sprinter and 440 man, and he and Edmunds could combine to make one-half of an excellent relay team. John Chang will be another threat to the varsity's sprint power,

Princeton has some strong men in the field events. Stu White is a very good high jumper, and Don Catino is a possible winner in the javelin. But the varsity group that assistant coach Ed Stowell calls "the best collection of field event men I've seen at Harvard" should join the runners in a convincing victory.
