Head Residents Believe Affiliation Will Bring Art, Tutors to Radcliffe

In spite of skepticism in the Square, head residents at Radcliffe are busily plotting affiliation with two Houses.

Comstock Hall, by joining with Winthrop House, hopes to bring an intellectual atmosphere into the dormitory, while Holmes Hall and Quincy House aim at cooperation in the arts.

"Radcliffe can never replace the Harvard community, out it can take better advantage of what is offered," explained Donald R. Brown, teaching fellow in Government, who serves with his wife as Head Resident at Comstock. "We must bring people into the dorms who will make them more than just a place to live," he added.

To do this, Mr. and Mrs. Brown and David E. Owen, Master of Winthrop House will assign 'Cliffe concentrators to House tutors. Faculty associates of Winthrop will often eat lunch at the Annex dormitory, "in an informal atmosphere that is not possible at the weekly guest dinners that now take place," Brown said.

"Plans for Holmes and Quincy are not academically oriented," Mrs. Daisy Newman, Head Resident of Holmes, explained, "but we shall enrich our intellectual life a great deal."

As the music center of Radcliffe, Holmes is the only Annex dorm with its own music groups and concert piano. Quincy men will be able to join forces with 'Cliffies already organized into a chamber music group.
