Unable to hit the hoop from the floor during the entire second half, 'Cliffe basketball enthusiasts lost to Boston College, 27 to 23, yesterday afternoon in an extremely small, narrow B.C. gym.
Led by captain Betsy Fogarty, bucket guard, and high-scoring forward Tish Emerson, the Annex six were ahead 21 to 16 at the half. In the third period, forwards Miss Emerson, Nancy Morton, and Sandy Witt failed to score from outside the key. They made two out of three foul shots.
In the fourth quarter, the 5 ft. 11 in. Miss Fogarty fouled out for overguarding. Lacking height and experience without the captain, guards Brenda Baird, Nancy Jacobson, and substitute Judy Friend failed to halt the high-pressure B.C. forwards, who went on to score nine points.
Two standout forwards on the Boston squad, Marcia Hampton and Lill Wisdash, displayed skill in out-manoeuvering Annex guards who bucked the attack with a straight-line defense.
This is the third loss for the 'Cliffe, which now has a 3-3 record in local games. Next week it meets its annual rival, Jackson.
