Playboy Magazine, which has long been the favorite reading matter of Yale students, was removed Wednesday from New Haven news stand.

It was banned under a state statute forbidding the sale of material which is "obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy or indecent, or which contains pictures of nude or partially denuded figures likely to provoke or arouse lust or passion in persons below the age of 18."

The magazine was also temporarily taken off the stands in 1954 for being "objectionable."
