Led by five returning lettermen, the varsity golfers will face a powerful Boston College team this afternoon at 2:30 p.m., at the Commonwealth Country Club in Newton. B.C. will provide the Crimson with stiff competition, as they have already defeated a good Brown team, 4 1/2 to 2 1/2.
Either Frank Dodge, who turned in a 74 Tuesday on a course in poor condition, Perry Driggs, or Alan Steinert will oppose B.C.'s number one player, 1956 Massachusetts State Amateur Champion Charlie Volpone. Captain Warren Iliff, Dave Beattie, North Ward, and John Tuschman will be the other starters.
Coach Cooney Weiland is saving five other golfers for the varsity's triangular match Saturday with Amherst and M.I.T. He said yesterday the permanent squad would be chosen next week.
