Peterson Rejoins HYRC Presidential Race, Accuses Dawson of Campaign Corruption

The Harvard Young Republican Club elections took a colorful turn last night as David F. Peterson '59 announced he would re-enter the race for president of the club. Peterson accused his opponent Alec B. Dawson '59, of corrupt vote-get-ting methods.

According to Peterson, who had previously withdrawn from the race because of alleged corruption, Dawson gave Symphony tickets to certain freshman members of the HYRC in return for their votes. Dawson admitted that he gave out some tickets, but that he also distributed them to non-members.

Dawson replied that Peterson had refused to take part in the campaigning in Watertown, preferring to do his own instead. "Mr. Peterson is splitting the club," he stated.

"His in and out shenanigans have certainly done nothing to help Republicanism either at Harvard or on a statewide level."
