University to Probe Varsity Club Blaze

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

University Police definitely plan to investigate last night's Varsity Club fire, Arthur D. Trottenberg '48, Manager of Operating Services, said yesterday.

"The lock on the Band Room door was evidently tampered with," commented Trottenberg; "however, it may very well have been an eager Band member trying to get his instrument." "There is no tangible evidence of arson," Trottenberg emphasized.

Last night Deputy Fire Chief William Cremins said that the cause of the blaze was "spontaneous combustion, which may have developed from smoldering remnants of last week's fire." He doubted that there would be further investigation by the Cambridge fire department.
