Seventeen students are now living in a wing of Vanderbilt Hall renovated over the summer to serve as the first women's dormitory in the history of the Medical School.
The project grew out of a feeling on the part of some of the students that they were missing a large part of the academic life of the Medical School by having to waste time each day commuting.
The Deanery, the section of Vanderbilt Hall which was remodeled, was originally intended for use by the Deans of the Medical School, but it has never been used for that purpose.
Along with the rest of the building, it served as a men's dormitory until last summer.
