Architectural Sciences Will Enlarge 'Workshop'

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An expanded Design Workshop for undergraduates will be established by the Department of Architectural Sciences next fall in the building now occupied by the University Maintenence Shop, Dean Bundy announced yesterday.

The workshop will occupy the second and third floors, and the Cambridge Electron Accelerator will establish magnet assembly shop on the first floor and basement levels. The Building and Grounds Department is moving later this month to its new building near Soldiers' Field, and the Maintenence Shop will be converted during the summer.

The Design Workshop will include expanded Architectural Sciences courses in "Design Fundamentals" and "Free-hand Drawing." Enlarged facilities and the addition of an additional instructor will make possible more and smaller sections in these courses.

The new program will serve as an experiment to determine the extent of undergraduate facilities which will b included in the proposed $1.3 million Design Center. The structure, part of a broad Visual Arts Program for the University, would house some of the activities of the Graduate School of Design and expanded undergraduate design activities, including courses now offered by the Department of Architectural Sciences.
