Among the boys that play the game Bob Hastings ran away with all the regular season hitting honors of those with 50 at bats or more. The Crimson shortstop compiled a .348 average, and led the squad with 24 hits, 21 runs batted in, five home runs, 46 total bases, and tied Babe Simourian with 19 runs scored.
.300 Hitters
Of the other regulars, only Walt Stahura and John Getch broke .300. Stahura hit at a .309 clip and led the team with nine stolen bases. Getch amassed the second highest number of hits, 19, and batted .302. Bob Cleary narrowly missed the .300 bracket by two points.
Although Simourian hit .267 he reached first base more times than any other teammate (42 times) and led in doubles production with five.
Tom Bergantino tied Simourian for second in the total bases department with 24. He also collected two homers and three two-base hits, but batted only .200.
The other two regulars also fared rather poorly at bat. Right fielder Matt Botsford only managed .200, but stole six bases. Catcher Phil Haughey did a fine job in handling his pitchers and smacked two home runs among his 11 hits. Needless to say, however, 11 out of 57 does not figure as a substantial batting average.

Oddly enough, the bench supplied some of the best batting averages. Utility outfielder Dick Fisher only got a crack at the horsehide 20 times, but lashed out seven hits for a .350 average. All his blows were singles. Kent Hathaway came up late in the season to fill a hole on the varsity caused by injuries and batted .300.
