JV Nine Trounces Weak Tufts Squad

The JV baseball team soundly beat the Tufts JV yesterday by a score of 16 to 6, behind an 18-hit barrage.

For the first several innings the game looked as if it might be close, but Kent stead blasted the ball over the right Hataway missed a take signal and in-fielder's head for a two-run homer to tie up the score.

Harvard scored 12 runs in the next three innings to eliminate any element of doubt about the outcome. Besides his home run, Hathaway got two doubles and two walks to round out a perfect day at bat.

The JV's pitching was somewhat less impressive, although two of Tufts' six runs were unearned. Carl Packer labored the first six innings and seemed to be pretty effective when he got the ball over the plate. Two of the four runs he gave up were made by men he walked.

Herb Scheiner retired the team in order in the seventh but gave up two singles and two walks and hit a batsman, which resulted in two runs in the eighth. The ninth inning was called on account of rain.

The JV looked quite sharp out in the field, with only one error, while Tufts' infield was very inept. The one JV error, a wild throw by catcher Dave Fairburn in an attempted pick-off, resulted in one runner scoring and another being put in a position to score. Fairburn redeemed himself by successfully picking off a runner later in the inning.
