Ex-M.I.T. Freshman Receives Sentence

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

John H. Wagner, the 19-year-old former freshman at M.I.T. who robbed a bank of $19,000, was today sentenced for an indeterminate period to the Federal Youth Correction Center in Ashland, Ky.

A defense plea for probation was turned down, but U.S. District Judge Michael L. Igoe said that care and treatment for Wagner would be provided at the institution. The judge claimed that Wagner might get a conditional release from the center within his first four years there, and an unconditional release if he stayed six years.

Wagner robbed a bank in Richmond, III., last August 29, shortly before he enrolled at M.I.T. He was arrested December 8 in Oklahoma City, after having spent all but $4500 of the stolen money in a wild cross-country spree.
