Executive Board Says HDC Will Not Disband

The executive board of the Harvard Dramatic Club met yesterday afternoon and defeated a motion to disband the organization. The movement to disband was made public Tuesday by the Club president, David E. Green '58.

Immediately after its meeting, the Board released the following statement to the CRIMSON: "The Harvard Dramatic Club, contrary to Tuesday's report, will continue its current program as planned."

A number of the senior members of the HDC apparently used their influence to defeat the more radical proposals of newer Club officials. The Board eventually decided to continue its efforts to secure adequate shop space from the University. Board members were optimistic last night about the chances of liquidating the Club's $2000 debt with the proceeds from Doctor's Dilemma, opening next week, and from "one or two other productions."

Temporary Suspension Rejected

The proposal to disband outright was reportedly dismissed without much consideration. As one board member said, "it looked pretty silly when we actually sat down and started to talk about it." The board then discussed a move to suspend operations temporarily; but this, too, was voted down.

Green, who had originally favored the dissolution of the Club, said last night that "having seen the enthusiasm of the Board members this afternoon, I am now definitely sure that the Club can continue and operate successfully."

Previously, Green had felt that the disbanding of the HDC might lead the Administration to assist in forming a new, and larger College drama organization. In this case, he said, disbanding would be a step towards the much-desired goal of more centralized management of College dramatic activities.
