Council Lacks Pledged Money; Projects May Face Curtailment

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Student Council will be forced to curtail some of its activities unless it receives the remainder of its pledge money, Council President Larry Johnson '58 reported yesterday.

Johnson said that the organization has received only $500 in pledge money since Sept. 25, one third of the $1500 promised on registration day, and is planning to send out a second pledge letter.

The Council could possibly collect a total of $3755, including $1700 already paid in cash, if all pledges are turned in. This total is $2000 less than was collected in cash last year.

Officers claimed that some larger Council projects might have to be curtailed by their lack of funds. Treasurer Marc E. LeLand '59, said that Council members would like to make several new reports.

"One of these would investigate the H.A.A., and the administration has indicated it is about time for a report on the Houses," LeLand stated.

Johnson attributed the low number of donations to "lack of pressure" on freshmen, and felt this had prevented the Council from raising an additional $1500.

LeLand added that the low contribution level will leave no funds for the 1958-59 Council. The 1956-57 group presented a surplus of $1200 to this year's Council members, after all its bills had been paid.

The Council's main expenditure this year has been NSA dues, which cost the group $150.
