Varsity Squash Team Crushes Williams, Cornell by 9-0 Scores

The varsity squash team displayed the tremendous power which should make it Eastern Champion again this year as it crushed Williams and Cornell by 9-0 shutout scores this weekend.

Against Williams, which perennially ranks as one of the varsity's top rivals for squash honors, the Crimson was never in trouble. Only three matches went to four games and one to the five game limit.

At first singles, Ben Heckscher crushed Oliver Stafford who was considered one of the few threats to Heckscher's collegiate supremacy, 15-10, 16-13, 16-15. At second singles Cal Place won 3 to 1, and at fifth and sixth singles, Charlie Hamm and Henry Cortesi also took 3-1 victories.

At seventh singles, Bob Hartley dropped the first two games and fell behind in the third before pulling out a close 3-2 win.

Cornell Inexperienced

Against Cornell on Saturday, the varsity won another easy 9-0 victory over a Big Red team which was playing in intercollegiate ranks for the first time. Every match was a 3-0 win for Harvard except for the number one singles. At this spot, Heckscher ran into unexpected difficulty from Cornell's Craig Sanning.

Sanning won the first two games from Heckscher, 15-6 and 16-15, before the Crimson captain finally gained control to run out the remaining three games.
