Track Team Defeats Dartmouth; Quintet, Wrestlers Lose

Mighty Cornell found the varsity wrestling team a bit tougher than it had anticipated as the Big Red won 19 to 8 on the I.A.B. mats Saturday. The match was far closer than the score indicates.

Noble's win at 147 was possibly the most impressive for the varsity as he downed Cornell's co-captain, Charlie Gratto, 2-1. Each scored an escape, but Noble's time advantage, nearly three minutes accumulated in the second period, proved the margin of victory.

Crook, wrestling Paul Seybold at 137, scored a takedown in the first period, but Seybold quickly gained a reverse. In the final period, Crook scaped Seybold, then took him down, after having ridden him during much of the second period to win 6-2.

Foster scored a reverse after his oppo- nent, Steve Smethurst, had taken him down in the first period. In the second period, two escapes offset a Smethurst takedown. In the final period, Smethurst escaped after Foster had ridden him for most of the period to pile up the needed time advantage to gain the draw.

At 167, Cornell's Steve Friedman capitalized on some questionable officiating to hand Captain Bob Gilmor his first defeat of the season, 8-6. Friedman built up a 6-2 advantage during the first period with three takedowns, but several times in the second period, the referee forced Gilmor to release holds which hurt Friedman's leg, while allowing Friedman to walk it off, rather than stopping the match.

In addition, he did not credit Gilmor with a takedown which he had made at the edge of the mat. These two points would have made the difference, for in the final period, Gilmor was forced to let his opponent escape in order to gain a takedown.

Cornell's undefeated Dick Vincent pinned Jack Eastling at 157 with a double arm tie-up in 7:50, to register the only fall of the meet. At 123, undefeated Carmon Molino shut out the varsity's Dave Skeels, 4-0, while George Willis at 130 decisioned Paul Striker, 7-3.

At heavyweight, Dave Dunlop preserved his undefeated string at the expense of the varsity's Ted Raymond, winning the decision, 8-3
