Elephants Not So Slow

As expected, the Eliot crew yesterday defeated four other boats to capture the House championship. Stroked by last year's freshman heavy captain, Henry Jordan, the Elephants led all the way over a mile course in the Basin and finished three lengths ahead.

Dunster, stroked by Peter Franck, edged Leverett and Adams, by half a length and a length respectively, although the Funsters had lost to both crews in the preliminary race Tuesday. From the foreground in the picture above, the crews are: Kirkland, Adams, Eliot, Leverett, and Dunster.

Tomorrow the Eliot boat will row at New Haven against the Yale College championship eight.

The Elephants will also represent the Crimson against Yale in baseball today in New Haven. Dunster leads in the still incomplete baseball race, having lost only to Winthrop, but this week elected not to go to New Haven.

The Eliot nine has lost to both Dunster and Leverett, and yesterday it tied Kirkland. The Elephant battery will be made up of Jim O'Brien and Captain Bob Radner.
