Daniel S. Cheever '39, lecturer on Government, will fill the new post of Director of University Alumni Affairs, President Pusey announced yesterday.

Cheever's appointment, to take effect July 1, makes him a special adviser to the President on alumni activities which affect the entire University. The new post will be an important link between the Harvard community here and the University alumni throughout the world, Pusey said.

Cheever will provide a connection between the President and the numerous alumni organizations, Pusey said, and will help develop new policies affecting University-alumni relations. Pusey expressed the hope that the new office will improve alumni understanding of current developments at the University.

The new director will also work closely with the secretaries of the Alumni Association and the Associated Harvard Clubs. One of his specific duties, Pusey explained, is the administrative responsibility for the Alumni Records Office and the Class Report Office.

Cheever, a member of the Faculty since 1947, is Allston Burr Senior Tutor in Winthrop House. Before his appointment as lecturer in 1953, he served as assistant professor and tutor in Government.

A specialist in international affairs and foreign policy, he has written and lectured widely on his field. He has also held several posts in the government, including membership in the Secretariat of the U.N. Conference on International Organization at San Francisco in 1945.
