Wrestlers, Swimmers Easily Beat M.I.T

Captain Chouteau Dyer and two strong sophomores led the Crimson swimming team to a sound 69-17 win over M.I.T in the I.A.B. last night. Dyer and John Hammond set new varsity records in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, respectively

Dyer snapped his 1956 record of :50.6, in the 100-yard free style with a time of :50.3. Ron Mischner was second for the Crimson, and Dick Duane was third for Tech. Hammond's :58.6 in the 100-yard butterfly was two-tenths of a second better than the record set by now Olympic swimmer Dave Hawkns in 1954. Bob Jaffe was second for the Crimson, with Gene Getchell taking third for M.I.T.

The Crimson took firsts in every event except the 200-yard backstroke, which Tech was expected to take. Sophomore Dick Seaton was expecially impressive in the 440-yard free-style, which he won in 5:07.3. Kohler was second for M.I.T. which Tom Cochran gave Harvard a third.

The varsity took the 400-yard medley relay, a new event, in 4:11.8. Bill Murray, Sigo Falk, Bill Hoadley, and Jon Lind won the race. Dyer took the 220-yard freestyle, in 2:10.5, while Seaton took second for the Crimson and Kohlman third for Tech.

Rodger Clifton and Mischner teamed up to take first and second in the 50-yard freestyle, in :24.1. Jantzen was third for Tech. Greg Stone took a first for the Crimson in diving, with 68 points. Bryson was second for M.I.T., while Duane Murner finished third for Harvard.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Bill Murray was second for Harvard, while Devine won in 2:21.6. JJohnson was third for Tech. Sigo Falk and Bill Hoadley took first and second in the 200-yard breast-stroke, while Jacobson was third for M.I.T. The time was 2:33.5.

Griff Winthrop, Clifton, Stu Ogden, and Lind took the 400-yard freestyle relay for the Crimson, in 3:43.5.
