Harriers Win Heptagonals; Crimson Soccer Triumphs

A deep and well balanced Crimson cross-country team won its first championship in the eighteen years of the Heptagonal Games yesterday on the five mile course at Van Courtlandt Park in New York. Princeton's Rod Zwirner turned in a fast time to win, with the Crimson's Arthur Reider right behind.

This morning, the Crimson soccer team snapped a 6-game losing streak and engineered a minor upset by defeating Princeton 2-1. Harvard's win was its first Ivy victory and third of the season.

The Crimson defense, which customarily collapses in the late periods, was unusually strong throughout. Captain Grey Hodnett, alternating between center-half and center-forward, was the big difference in defensive play. Chris Provenson turned in his best performance of the year at left full-back, while right full-back Don Beaver contributed his usual good play.

The Princeton rugby team defeated the Crimson underdogs this morning, 11-0. Suffering from transportation difficulties and injuries the visitors at one point had only 11 men on the field (out of a team of 15 with no substitutions).

It was by far the best game for the Crimson this fall, and only a strong wind stopped three penalty kicks that could have made the score 11 to 9.

Meanwhile a weak Crimson J.V. eleven was downed by Princeton 19 to 6. In the first period Tiger back Tom Dalton plunged over for the first touchdown. Crimson back Tony Marlow tied up the score with a short run in the first period.

There were two scores by the Tigers in the third and fourth periods. George May ran 40 yards for a touchdown in the third and Bob Mack passed to Ken Lenert in the final period.

Behind the sensational running of Bob Milling the Tiger freshman football team rolled over the Crimson eleven this morning 20-0. Milling scored twice, once in the second and once in the third period.
