Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Harvard's best friend, Councilman Al Vellucci is obviously upset by the now famous Peterborough Proposals. Just the other evening Mr. Vellucci said, "We want Harvard to stay now that it is cooperating in the student parking and student housing situations. This is very considerate, but unrealistic, because the emigration to New Hampshire would completely solve the parking and housing problems.
In Peterborough who would need cars? Students would use horses in the summer, sleighs in the winter, and anyhow there are no roads. Why worry about building new houses in Peterborough? A few poles, some canvas, and a piece of string would provide students with a "Do it yourself house kit." In addition, the entire question of emergency evacuation would be removed.
Budding Thoreaus would bloom in Peterborough. In the clear mountain air, the astronomy department would flourish. In secret mountain lairs, organic chemists could make fortunes. And most important of all, the Administration would no longer have to worry about bringing God all the way to Harvard, for Harvard would be bringing itself part of the way.
