Police Pick Up Three Students For Car Theft

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two juniors and a sophomore were arrested early this morning by Cambridge police for attempted larceny of a 1950 Chevrolet.

The three students are Charles W. Bender '57, David F. Knutson '58, and Keith P. Kerney '57.

According to police reports, the three took the car from Ware St., and were caught by a squad car at 12:10 a.m. on Mt. Auburn St., after a passer-by at Ware St. reported the theft.

Booked as "suspicious persons for the larceny of an auto," the students spent the night in jail. Arraignment is scheduled for this morning.

Allegedly on their way to Smith College, the three "took the first car they found," according to police. They can be freed on bail, but one officer said "I don't see where they are going to get the money."

Bender and Knutson are both from Dunster House. Kerney is in Leverett.
