The Yard's two archway gates on Massachusetts Ave. will henceforth be open until midnight for the convenience of upperclassmen using Lamont Library during its newly scheduled late hours. Matthew J. Toohy, Chief of University Police, announced the decision after meeting with University officials yesterday morning.
The two gates were open late last night for the first time. Formerly, students returning to the Houses after 10 p.m. had to use the gates at either end of the Yard. The large gate in front of Widener will still close at 5 p.m., Toohy said.
