A vastly improved varsity squash team yesterday defeated the Boston Harvard Club in the opening match of the second half of the Metropolitan Squash "A" League season, 4 to 1. Just two months ago, the Harvard Club had crushed the varsity by the same score.
The team's only loss came at second singles where Pete Milton bowed to Milt Street, eleventh ranked player in the country, 3 to 1. At the first slot, Bon Hecksher continued his undefeated season with a 3 to 1 win over Hugh Nawn. Third man Cal Place won easily by the same score.
At fourth and fifth singles, Lee Folger and Charlie MacVeagh showed improvement which "particularly pleased" coach Jack Barnaby. Barnaby said that it was the best match Folger had ever played, and that this is one of the main reasons for the team's development into "a real 'A'-league team."
The Yardling squash team will go after their fourth win of the "B" league season.
