The Student Council last night lost its second president of the year, when Richard L. Dodds '55 of Kirkland House and Binghamton, N.Y., resigned in absentia because of illness.
Dodds had succeeded first president, John R. Green '56 of Lowell House and San Francisco, who resigned last spring under academic pressure.
After "accepting with regret" Dodds' resignation, it unanimously elected Albert B. Levin '56 of Kirkland House and East Orange, N.J., its third president. Levin was formerly vice-president.
By Council decision, the election was held before the appointment of a representative to fill the vacancy left by Dodds. The Council further voted to move former secretary James G. Hatcher '56 of Dunster House and Morton, Ill., to the vice-presidency and elected Frank H. Baker '56 of Leverett House and Hartford, Conn., to Hatcher's secretaryship.
In his letter to the Council, Dodds said that he "had hoped to continue . . .this new school year in . . . search for a more perfect Council. However, because of my sickness, which is lasting longer than expected, doctors have advised that I must drop all my extra duties this year. . . .I submit this resignation . . . to the Council with sincere and heartfelt appreciation of your cooperation and leadership this past spring."
The former president developed infectious hepatitis while working in a factory last summer. Doctors have advised that he may be able to return to the College either later this term or next term, depending on his rate of recovery.
