Clyde K. M. Kluckhohn, professor of Anthropology, and Florence R. Kluckhohn, lecturer on Sociology, have left their University tasks to go to the aid of their son Richard, who is charged with killing a woman in Raleigh, N.C.
Police believe that Kluckhohn, from a hotel window, fired a shot which killed a woman in a nearby parking lot. Though he has made no official statement, he told his parents that his rifle discharged accidentally while he was cleaning it. His attorney said that Kluckhohn was not aware of the shooting until his arrest.
Both Professor Kluckhohn and his wife expressed belief in the innocence of their son. "More than ever, now that we have come here, Kluckhohn said, "we are convinced that it was an accident."
