Crimson, St. Lawrence To Play in Tournament

Unanimous Action by Committee Follow Clarkson's Defeat

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The varsity hockey team and St. Lawrence University will be the Eastern representatives at the NCAA Tournament starting next Thursday in Colorado Springs, the Selection Committee announced yesterday.

A faculty committee on athletics had already approved the Tourney invitation and Crimson coach Cooney Welland accepted for his team at the regular Thursday Hockey Writers' Luncheon. He told the newsmen that the sextet would "give a good account of itself out West."

All the Tournaments' participants will have their expenses paid by the gate receipts of the games, which will be held in the Broadmoor Ice Palace. The rink's seating capacity is 2,400 and all reserved seats have been sold out since last December.

Any deficit will be covered by the Tourney's host, the Broadmoor Hotel, in Colorado Springs. Last year's Tournament, won by R.P.I., cost the Hotel $5,400 extra.

Decision Unanimous

Chairman Harry Cleverly of Boston University said that after St. Lawrence defeated Clarkson Wednesday night the three-man committee's decision was unanimous. Each of the chosen sextets has lost only one game in NCAA play, with one contest left to play.

The Western participants will be announced officially next Sunday, although according to the Western League's system Colorado College and Michigan have already clinched the two bids. Colorado and Michigan finished first and second respectively in the League.

The drawings for the Tourney's first round will be held Monday with each Western team facing an Eastern sextet. The preliminary games will be held Thursday and Friday and the consolation and championship matches on Saturday
