Norfolk Prison Loses to Debaters For Second Time in Eight Years

For the second the in eight years the varsity debate team defeated the Norfolk State Prison Colony Debate Team in the prison auditorium Sunday evening. Joseph E. Frank '56, and George F. Frederickson '56 upheld the affirmative of the national topic. "Resolved: That the U.S. should extend diplomatic recognition to the Communist Government of China."

The "model prison" debate team has an outstanding record, including trimphsover Oxford. William, and Cambridge, "They have extra time for research," explained Frederickson. "They were very well rehearsed and were excellently roached."

Frank described Norfolk as an "uppercuts prison with a criminals of character." Norfolk colony accepts only those offenders, who in the eyes of the law, are capable of being reformed he explained.

Both debaters and David P. Brydea debate team manager were taken on a tour of the prison as guests of Jersons J. Coughlin Community Service Director of Norfolk. They also attended a "coffee and cookies" reception where they were able to speak freely with the ingrates.
